Road Infrastructure Agency with Prestigious World GIS Prize in San Diego
The Geographic Information System of Road Infrastructure Agency was honored with the highest international distinction in the sphere of geospatial technologies. The prize will be awarded on 29 June at a solemn ceremony in the Congress Center of San Diego, the USA.
Urbanist Zlati Peshev and eng. Dobromira Zarankova, experts in GIS at the Road Infrastructure Agency will receive the distinction.
The prestigious competition “Special Achievements in GIS” is organized for the 11th consecutive year and distinguishes organizations with achievements in the application of the newest geospatial technologies. The event is during the international Esri Conference – the biggest world GIS forum, which has gathered over 16 000 GIS users and over 500 organizations from all over the world for years on end.
The GIS system of Road Infrastructure Agency was selected and distinguished for special achievements in the application of the geographic information systems, in the category “GIS Projects beyond the USA”. Over 100 000 applicants participated in the competition.
The innovative project of the Road Agency was implemented last year. “Provision of GIS based electronic administrative services at the issuance of permits for the citizens and creation of GIS registers for revenue activities” is financed under Operational Programme “Administrative Capacity” 2007-2013. A geographic information system for the road infrastructure was developed with its implementation based on the most modern Esri ArcGIS technologies.
This is the third prize for the Project of Road Infrastructure Agency. In November 2015 on the World GIS Day the system took the honors for innovation and this year it was honored for contribution in the development of the infrastructure of Bulgaria, in category “Geographic Information Systems” at the competition INFRASTRUCTURE BULGARIA AWARDS 2016.
