Repairs of Key Road Directions of National Roads Start Up from 10 May
Repairs of key road directions of the national roads start up from 10 May – immediately after the completion of the journey related to the days off for Easter and Saint George’s Day. The programme for repairs of the road network was presented before the media by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova and the Chairman of the Management Board of Road Infrastructure Agency, Eng. Lazar Lazarov.
As early as at the end of March and the beginning of April immediately when there were favorable meteorological conditions the patching of the main directions, the cleaning of the tunnels of Hemus Motorwat and of Trayanovi Vrata of Trakia Motorway started up. First the motorways, the first-class roads as well as the sections with the heaviest traffic of the second-class road network will be repaired. The third-class roads were planned for repairs during the time period May – July. The objective is that the repair activities should be completed prior to the commencement of the active summer season. Repairs of the pavement, dewatering activities, cleaning of ditches and culverts, mowing and other activities related to the safety of the traffic were foreseen. Nearly BGN 5 million were provided for current repairs of the asphalt pavements in April of roads of the first, the second and the third class. We have a detailed plan in conformity with regions on which road, from kilometer to kilometer what current repairs will be performed, Eng. Lazarov emphasized.
Maps with the planned current repairs per regions in April were published on the Internet site - www.api.bg, in section “Maintenance of the Road Network”.
A preventive repair of roads in Northern Bulgaria, repair-rehabilitation activities and final construction of road projects will be performed with the provided by a Decree of the Government this week over BGN 119,1 million. Directions of great economic significance and intensity of the traffic will be repaired, Minister Lilyana Pavlova pointed out.
The repairs along the national network in Northern Bulgaria in the regions of Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Lovech, Montana, Pleven, Razgrad, Ruse, Silistra, Dobrich, Targovishte, Shumen are at the value of BGN 68 800 000. 198 km will be renovated with them.
The repairs of the following were scheduled:
• 22 km of road I-1 Dimovo – Medovnitsa in the region of Vidin;
• 10 km of III-102 Montana – Topolovets in the region of Vidin as well as another 10 km of the same road III-102 Beli Mel – Montana in the region of Montana;
• 10 km of road III-101 Vratsa – Krivodol in the region of Vratsa;
• 15 km of road II-51 Byala – Koprivets in the region of Ruse;
• 6 km of road III-403 Suhindol – Pavlikeni in the region of Veliko Tarnovo;
• 13 km of road III-204 Razgrad – Blagoevo in the region of Razgrad and so on.
The provision of funds for the improvement of the condition of the road network in Northern Bulgaria is a part of the commitment of the Government for the attraction of more investments in this part of the country and for its social-economic development.
After 10 May the repairs of the tunnels Vitinya and Echemishka and viaduct Eleshnitsa of Hemus Motorway will start up. Nearly BGN 31,5 million were foreseen for sections and facilities of Hemus Motorway and Trakia Motorway, which were not renovated for decades on end. The right-hand tunnel pipe of Vitinya will be repaired – lighting and ventilation installation, fire signaling, repairs of the pavement and so on – BGN 11 066 000; BGN 5 329 900 were provided for the right-hand tunnel pipe of Echemishka; repairs of the upper structure and the substructure of the facility will be performed on the right-hand carriageway in the direction of Varna of viaduct Eleshnitsa – BGN 11 570 000; for a section of nearly 8 km /in the regions of Sofia and Pazardzhik/ from km 53 to km 61 – BGN 1 300 000, for the facility at the 136th km of Trakia Motorway in the region of Plovdiv – BGN 2 160 000.
A part of the funds presented by the Council of Ministers will be used for the final construction of an overpass over the railway line Sofia – Burgas on road II-18 at Kazichene – the right-hand carriageway in the section from the North Speed Tangent to Trakia Motorway. This is an important road connection conducting the heavy-freight traffic from Border Control Checkpoint Kalotina to Kapitan Andreevo and to the port of Burgas. At the moment a part of the overpass, in the direction of the traffic from the tangent to Trakia Motorway, is not built up and the traffic is performed two-way in the built-up left-hand carriageway. The safety of the traffic will be enhanced with the construction of the second carriageway of the railway overpass and the entire section of road junction Slivnitsa to Trakia Motorway will be homogenized.
The repairs of Asparuh’s Bridge will start up tomorrow with BGN 5 million provided by the Government. Stage I will be implemented with the provided funds, which includes repairs of bridge 1, bridge 2, bridge 3 of a total of 11 facilities of Asparuh’s Bridge. Replacement of waterproofing, asphalt works; repairs of sidewalk consoles, sanitization of beams, restrictive systems, signs, marking and so on are foreseen.
Preventive repairs of 3 facilities of Hemus Motorway will be performed with funds from the budget of Road Infrastructure Agency – at km 394+340, km 422+020 and km 422+250, which are on the territory of the region of Varna. The funds planned for them are in the amount of BGN 1 300 000. It is anticipated that the repairs will be completed up to the beginning of the active tourist season.
26,7 km of third-class road sections in the regions of Dobrich, Kardzhali, Pernik and Sofia at the total value of BGN 6 270 891 will also be repaired. Their repairs are expected to be completed by the month of July.
Nearly BGN 55 million were provided for the winter maintenance of the national roads from November last year up to the end of the winter, in conformity with the certificates verified up to this time. The amount of the sanctions for the companies which did not implement the assigned activities with the quality needed under the Contract adds up to about BGN 825 thousand. Fines were imposed to the road maintaining companies responsible for the roads in 10 regions. These are: Vratsa, Gabrovo, Kardzhali, Lovech, Pernik, Pleven, Plovdiv, Ruse, Sofia and Targovishte.
