Monday and Friday are the Days with the Most Intensive Traffic on Road I-5 Kardjali - Podkova

Kardjali_Podkova.jpgTwo years after opening the traffic along the new Kardjali – Podkova section of road I-5, it is already one of the busiest road sections of the national road network in South Bulgaria, with Mondays and Fridays being the most heavy trafficked. Since the beginning of the year, 9700 motor vehicles is the average 24-hour traffic of vehicles for the two days with the most intensive traffic along the rehabilitated section of the first-class road I-5 between Kardjali and the fork for Dzhebel; and 3600 motor vehicles per 24 hours at the average along the new route – from the fork for Dzhebel to Podkova.


 

Project „Road Е-85 (І-5) Kardzhali – Podkova from km 342+639,41 to km 367+427 and road connection „Fotinovo” from km 0+000 to km 2+368” was completed under Operational Programme „Transport” 2007-2013 with funds from the EU Cohesion Fund and the National Budget. It includes the rehabilitation of 8,2 km of road І-5 from Kardjali – the crossroads with Bulgaria blvd. to the fork for Dzhebel and new construction of a 23,6 km section – from the fork for Dzhebel to Podkova, as well as the road connection with the village of Fotinovo with length 2,4 km. The new section was opened for traffic at the beginning of February 2014.

The Contractors of the construction and assembly works are DZZD (Company under the Obligations and Contracts Act) „Kardjali – Podkova” and DZZD „Prohod – Makaza”. The construction supervision was exercised by DZZD „Infrastructura – Magistralni Patishta”.

The overall value of the Grant Contract under the Project is about BGN 54 million inclusive of VAT.

Road І-5 Kardzhali – Podkova is a part of the Trans-European Transport Network – Corridor No IX, connecting Finland and Russia with Greece through Romania and Bulgaria. It is one of the four first-class routes and a main connection of North – South direction.
