Minister Terzieva and Eng. Chaykov Checked the Construction Progress of Section 1 of the Western Arc of Sofia Ring Road
The Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva and the Chairman of the Management Board of Road Infrastructure Agency, Eng. Stefan Chaykov checked the construction progress of section 1 of the Western Arc of Sofia Ring Road (road ІІ-18) from km 59+400 to km 61+629 and from km 0+000 to km 0+780. The Project is cо-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union and the national budget under Operational Program on Transport 2007-2013.
The Project is being implemented within schedule. The work has not been stopped and the first section of about 3 km from the Western Arc of the Ring Road should be completed in July this year, Minister Terzieva declared. The traffic from and to Sofia will be considerably alleviated with the construction of the section, the traffic jams will be reduced in number and traveling will be much safer, the Regional Minister indicated.
Three big facilities are being constructed on the section – a road junction at Tsaritsa Yoana Blvd., which includes a scaffold bridge with 18 spans, a road junction at Slivnitsa Blvd. with a scaffold bridge with 12 spans and a bridge at the Kakach River.
The road junction at Slivnitsa Blvd. was designed in three levels. The passage through the road connection without any conflicts will be provided with its construction, the transport servicing of the international and domestic traffic will be improved, the safety and the security in traveling will be increased, Eng. Chaykov explained.
The first level is under the level of the existing crossroad. The transit traffic along Sofia Ring Road in the direction north – south will be performed on it. The second level is at the level of the terrain and will be a roundabout with two arched bridges over Sofia Ring Road. The third level will be a scaffold bridge above the level of the present crossroad. The transit flow in the direction Slivnitsa Blvd. – Border Control Checkpoint Kalotina will pass along it.
The route of section 1 of the Western Arc of Sofia Ring Road is between the road junction of Lyulin Motorway and Sofia Ring Road and ends after the bridge over the Kakach River. The width of the road is 46 m. It includes a direct route, a dividing strip, dividing strips between the inlet carriageways and the direct route, sidewalks and so on.
The Contractor is Association Trace SOP DZZD. The value of the Contract is BGN 47 820 000 inclusive of VAT. DZZD Association Patconsult 2000-TRI S will exercise the construction supervision. Their Contract is in the amount BGN 1 171 800 inclusive of VAT. The author supervision will be exercised by SP LUDMIL KOLAROV - KANEL. The Contract is in the amount of BGN 96 000 inclusive of VAT.
The Western Arc of Sofia Ring Road is a continuation of Lyulin Motorway and constitutes a part of Corridor IV of Trans-European Transport Network connecting Vidin with Kulata.
