Lazar Lazarov pointed out before the participants at the 11th Annual Conference „Strategic Infrastructure and Investments, Bulgaria in Connected Europe 2016”.

A great part of the projects which will be financed by the European Regional Development Fund are in North Bulgaria. The projects envisage the rehabilitation of nearly 43 km of the Petrohan pass on the territory of Sofia region – road II-81, about 30 km of the second-class road II-29 Varna – Dobrich – Kardam, 21 km of road II-49 Targovishte – Razgrad, 17,4 km of road III-1002 Vratsa – cave Ledenika, 27 km of Road II-44 Sevlievo – Gabrovo, near 12 km of II-35 Pleven – Lovech, 10 km of road II-86 Plovdiv – Asenovgrad, etc.

This year the Transit Roads V Programme continues with the major repair of over 170 km of second- and third-class roads. Most of them are also in North Bulgaria – for instance Shumen – Varbitsa, Smyadovo – Veliki Preslav, Kamchia – Saedinenie, Asenovgrad – Smolyan, etc.

Eng. Lazarov told the participants in the forum that, for the near future, priority projects in the road sector are focused on the ongoing construction of the motorway ring. The key Projects are the motorways „Sofia – Kalotina”, „Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo” and „Vidin – Botevgrad”, the section of the Southern Arc of Sofia Ring Road – from Bakston blvd. to Lyulin motorway and from road junction Mladost to the connection with Trakia motorway as well as the tunnel under Shipka. Hard work is underway for the development of all these projects, so that with available financial resources, we can commence their construction, the Chairman of the Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency said. The short-term prospect is that the second section of the Western Arc of Sofia Ring Road and the 3-kilometer section of North Speed Tangent will be ready within the next few months. Completion of the Project will allow the citizens to get from the most north-eastern district of Sofia – Vrazhdebna to the most north-western and one of the biggest residential complexes Lyulin for about 15 minutes. The entire Western Arc of the Ring Road of the capital will be closed with their completion, indicated eng. Lazarov.
