Drivers Pass along the Route of Lot 4 of Struma Motorway as of Today
Drivers traveling to Greece will pass along the route of Lot 4 Sandanski – Kulata of Struma Motorway from this evening on. Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, the Ministers of Regional Development and Public Works - Lilyana Pavlova and of Transport, Information Technology and Communications - Ivaylo Moskovski and the Chairman of the Management Board of Road Infrastructure Agency, Eng. Lazar Lazarov, inspected the route of the 15-kilometer section before placing traffic from road junction Petrich to Border Control Checkpoint Kulata.
The first motor vehicles are expected to pass along the new motorway section promptly after the strong wind and the rain falling down within the area of lot 4 stop. Thus the traveling is to become faster and safer and the transit traffic no longer passes through the populated areas located in the proximity of the motorway.
People worked around the clock, at full speed to keep our promise to launch traffic on 1st August so that the tourists who are going to Greece on Saturday and Sunday would travel safely. I congratulate the builders who at temperature of 47 degrees laid asphalt but all this was done so that we could travel more safely, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov pointed out. After the completion of all the finishing works, the road that goes through the villages and on which the traffic during the execution of the construction activities of lot 4 passed through, will be repaired as well. The repairs will be done through the program for current repair and maintenance of Road Infrastructure Agency.
The official opening of lot 4, in compliance with the requirements of the Projects implemented with means from the Funds of the European Union, will be performed at the end of August. It is expected that by then the right-hand carriageway of the motorway shall be completed – from the connection with road I-1 (Е-79) to the bridge above the Sklavska River at road junction Petrich – Melnik where the traffic for Greece passes currently. According to the Contract the Project is to be completed by 11th September this year.
Lot 4 Sandanski – Kulata of Struma Motorway from km 423+800 to km 438+500 is 14,7 km. long. The Contractor of the Construction Contract is AKTOR ASD – Greece. Its value is BGN 67 176 000,00 inclusive of VAT. The construction supervision is exercised by Patinvest – Engineering AD (JSC). Their Contract is for BGN 356 419,20 inclusive of VAT.
The Project is cо-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union and the National Budget through Operational Program Transport 2007-2013.
