P7154417.JPGAs of 15 July the last 34 km section of Trakia motorway has been opened for traffic. This is Lot 4.2 – from road junction „Zimnitca” to the town of Karnobat (from km 291+000 to km 325+280). The project „Completion of Trakia motorway – Lots 2, 3 and 4” includes construction of total length of 115 km. It is co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund and the national budget under Operational Programme on Transport 2007-2013.

The section from road junction „Zimnitca” to the town of Karnobat was officially opened by the President Rosen Plevneliev and the Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Danail Papazov, the Chairman of the Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency engineer Lazar Lazarov, member of the Management Board engineer Iliana Zaharieva, members of the National Assembly, longtime employees of the state road administration and others.

The total length of Lot 4 – from Yambol to Karnobat is 49,08 km. On 26 August 2012 in order to facilitate the traffic through the Petolachkata, Lot 4.1 – the section from Yambol to road junction “Zimnitca” (from km 276+200 to km 291+000), was put in operation. It is about 15 km long.

Assembly of Trakia IV DZZD is contractor of the construction works. The contract value is 209 646 720,00 BGN (VAT incl.). The construction supervision is implemented by “Plan Invest – Plovdivinvest – Lot 4” DZZD, which contract is in the amount of 974 400,00 BGN (VAT incl.). The authors supervision is exercised by  consortium "Viaplan-Burda", the contract of which amounts to 130 800 BGN (VAT incl.)

With the opening of the last motorway section the average speed will be increased from 68 km/h at 101-105 km/h. The trip from Sofia to Burgas will take about 3 and a half hour. Traffic safety and comfort will be significantly increased. Transit traffic, which for decades has passing through a number  of towns and villages in the regions of Stara Zagora, Sliven, Yambol and Burgas, is now deviated beyond them. The better infrastructure will promote economic development and tourism in the region and will save a lot costs of individuals and businesses.

Trakia motorway is a part of Pan-European Transport Corridor VІІІ. Its completion is a priority infrastructure project of national and international importance. The project „Completion of Trakia motorway – Lots 2, 3 and 4” is the first large-scale road infrastructure project implemented under Operational Programme on Transport 2007-2013. The grant totals to 699 648 287,32 BGN, 513 970 279,58 BGN of them being of the EU Cohesion Fund. The national co-financing  is in the amount of 185 678 007,61 BGN.

The 115 km long motorway alignment is subdivided in three sections.

The first section (31.8 km long) with 20 large structures, from Stara Zagora to Nova Zagora, was opened for traffic on 1 July 2012. The road junction „Stara Zagora” was opened 9 months before the appointed time - on 13 October 2011and has provided for the safety link with two of the most trafficked routes – Orizovo – Burgas and Stara Zagora – Dimitrovgrad.

The second section (35,7 km long) with 18 large structures, from Nova Zagora to Yambol, was opened on 12 July 2012. It is in conformity with all European biodiversity safety requirements. About 8 km orange nets with a height of 4 m are installed guaranteeing the safety of migrating birds. Mini-tunnels are constructed under the pavement, intended for small animals.

On the third section from Yambol to Karnobat there are 30 large structures – bridges, underpasses, overpasses, road junctions, etc., three of them being bridge structures – over the rivers Tundja, Marash and Mochuritca.

Totally under the project are constructed 5 road junctions, 9 bridges, 36 overpasses,  15 underpasses and 3 crossings with railway lines.

The construction of 115 km of Trakia motorway with funds from the European Union completes the motorway from Sofia to Burgas, which is about 360 km long.
