15 km of Road III-867 – Sole Road Connection to Zlatograd Were Reconstructed
The rehabilitation and the reconstruction of 15.4 km of road III-867 Madan – Zlatograd – Benkovski under European Territorial Cooperation Programme Greece – Bulgaria 2007-2013 was completed. The third-class road is on the territory of the regions Smolyan and Kardjali and is the sole connection to Zlatograd and the surrounding populated areas. It connects the Municipality of Zlatograd to the neighboring - Madan, Nedelino and Kirkovo, and provides the connection between Road II-86 Rudozem – Smolyan – Asenovgrad and road I-5 Kardjali – Makaza. The investment is for over BGN 10,6 million.

3 sections were repired:
- from the fork for the village of Erma Reka to the western entrance to Zlatograd from km 22+157 to km 22+992 and from km 23+889 to km 28+135, with total length 5,081 km;
- Bulgaria Blvd. was repaired in Zlatograd – from the western entrance to the town to the end of the Industrial Zone, from km 28+135 to km 32+478 – length 4,3 km;
- from the end of the Industrial Zone to the fork for the village of Dolen from km 32+478 to km 38+443 – length 5,9 km.
The access of the inhabitants from the Municipality of Zlatograd to the administrative, health care, educational and cultural services is facilitated by the reconstruction of road III-867 and the safety of the traffic is enhanced. The look of the town is renewed by the repairs of the central boulevard and the connection with the Border Control Checkpoint Zlatograd – Thermes – Xanthi is improved, which enhances the cross-border effect of the Project.
The cold recycling technology was used during the repair of the road pavement of the first and the third sections. The dewatering of the road sections was improved – the existing trenches were cleaned, new trenches and culverts were built up. The section passing through the center of Zlatograd is with new curbs, sidewalks and a storm-water sewerage system, the three-branch crossroads in Bulgaria Blvd. and Han Presiyan Street was reconstructed into a roundabout. Two bridges were mainly repaired in the third section, one of which is over the Nedelinska River. The three sections are with new horizontal marking, road signs and restrictive systems.
The Contractor of the construction and assembly works is PST Group EAD. The value of the Contract is BGN 10 649 946,37 inclusive of VAT. The construction supervision of sections 1 and 3 was exercised by Ecoengineering EOOD, and of section 2 – Eco Bul. The Contracts for Construction Supervision are at the total value of BGN 120 348 inclusive of VAT.

It is cо-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (85%) and the national budget (15%).
